Welcome, Los Altos Class of 2011!
This blog will be available for the entire 2011 school year. As you know, you are enrolled in both AP Microeconomics and AP Government & Politics. While the course in the fall will primarily cover microeconomics (and some macroeconomics), I will still devote some class time to engage you with what's going on in the world of politics. The opportunity cost of delving too much into the political realm would be instruction on supply and demand, marginal cost and allocative efficiency.
As such, I will require regular blog postings that will be graded over the course of the semester. I will use the current events that you choose as a means to spur more discussion in class. How this blog is utilized mainly depends on your interest. I would prefer that you guys engage in lively discussion and bring up headline news in class, but once again, it is your blog. And I cannot force enthusiasm. I do control your grade, however. And so, you MUST post on the blog and also participate in class discussions as well.
